PROJECT SUMMARY

Good Governance in Grassroots Sport project (GGGS)  is a transnational project that increases organizational capacity for good governance by focusing on transparency and accountability, particularly at the grassroots sport association level.

Good governance in grassroots sport is a prerequisite for organizational legitimacy and ultimately survival. If grassroots sport, with its most significant financial contributions stemming from individual members and public authorities, does not govern in an appropriate and legitimate way, it will lose not only reputation-wise, but also in terms of its continued support when it comes to membership and public financial support.

Key principles of good governance in the EU are presented in the 2007 White Paper on Sport and the 2011 Communication on Sport: democracy, transparency, accountability in decision making and inclusiveness in the representation of interested stakeholders.
