A KICK AGAINST DISCRIMINATION
- Lauching THE EUROPEAN PROJECT "FOOTBALL FOR EQUALITY II"

A new project addressing homophobia and discrimination of gay people in sport  was launched 21 June in Vienna.  The European project "Football for Equality II” is funded by the European Commission.

The idea behind the project is to create a European network that can open the minds of youth groups, adults, fans, clubs, organizations and public opinion in general about homophobia in the world sport. The aim of the project  is also to propose actions to counter these forms of discrimination through the support networks of gay and lesbian sports.

The initiative includes the VIDC - Vienna Institute for International Dialogue and Cooperation - Fair Play (Austria) as a promoter and ISCA member UISP as a project partner.

"At European it’s very important to develop level the idea to fight all kinds of discrimination, this is a priority for our association. This project provides the opportunity to do so on different levels, starting from the local level to the national and European level,” says Francesca D'Ercole project coordinator of Football for Equality II.

Other project partners are: European Gay and Lesbian Sports Federation - EGLSF (Netherlands), the Football Supporters Europe - ESF (Germany), Institute for Sports Development Spolint (Slovenia), Ludia Proti Rasizmu - LPR (Slovakia)

EuroVolNet 2nd Seminar 23 – 25 September, Riga

The second seminar of the ISCA coordinated EuroVolNet project constitutes an important component of the project which serves the overall aim of debating volunteering challenges in Europe.

At the second seminar the main topic to be discussed is non-formal education and lifelong learning through sport. The sport sector, primarily based on volunteer engagement and contribution, is the most widespread civil society movement where learning processes take place both on and off the pitch.

The EuroVolNet Seminar in Riga will give time and space for further discussion between EuroVolNet Partners and other relevant institutions and organizations to improve coordination in volunteering across Europe.

Project Partners will join the seminar in Latvia, but other organizations interested in the event and the EuroVolNet project are welcome to contact Project Manager Saska Tomat at sbt@isca-web.org

ACTIVE Youth Training
healthy environment and volunteering, 13 – 20 June, France

As part of ISCA's ongoing youth training events, ISCA and UFOLEP - Union Française des Oeuvres Laïques d'Education Physique -  teamed up to organise a youth training event evolving around the themes: environment, volunteering and education through sport.

A very important part of the training course was the idea of promoting non formal education and education through sport, which was also the teaching model for the ACTIVE training.

The training took place in Hauteville-Lompnes near Lyon. This location was specifically chosen because of a The Hauteville Raid’spec - an eco-responsible sport event organised by UFOLEP – which the participants took part in on 18 June.

The environmental components as well as active youth participation were introduced in order to empower the participants to take responsibility about their own role in society and in their local communities.

Through the training the participants also joined the network started in the previous Active youth training seminars. The network is dedicated to further work within the field of education through sport.
