EU Preparatory action in the field of sport European Commission launches call for proposals
The Sport Unit of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Education and Culture launched a call for proposals concerning the 2010 Preparatory Action in the field of sport (Open call EAC/22/2010). The 2010 call aims at preparing future EU actions in the field of Sport, on the basis of priorities set in the White Paper on Sport. This call for proposals will support transnational projects put forward by public bodies or civil society organisations in order to identify and test suitable networks and good practices in the field of sport, in the following areas: - Fight against doping
- Promoting social inclusion in and through sport
- Promoting volunteering in sport
ISCA is most supportive of the European Commission's initiative and is ready to contribute two high-quality projects to be organized in cooperation with the most relevant public and private stakeholders in the sector. Accordingly, ISCA intends to be the leading organization in two project proposals in “Social Inclusion” and “Volunteering”, and expects to be a project partner in a number of other projects to be submitted. In case you would like to know more about the ISCA projects and eventually join the project partnership, please contact ISCA Secretary General Jacob Schouenborg at js@isca-web.org. Read more >>>.

Sports Tourism Strategies for Successful Development
The very terms sports tourism and sports events cover such a broad spectrum of activities that clarity of thinking and usable data has been hard to obtain. SportBusiness has now published a report that fills this important gap. This report identifies the different groups that make up the sector, what each is worth and how best to attract them. It provides analysis of different sports spectator and participant profiles, and examines differences between source markets, national versus international and short versus long-haul visitors. Sports Tourism: Strategies for Successful Development is a guide to the sector demonstrating just how sport can play a part in your development plans.

UISP AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA SPORT AND RIGHTS FOR HOMOSEXUALS AND TRANSGENDERS
On May 17th Europe, but not only in this continent, was celebrating the fourth "Day Against Homophobia", to promote initiatives against intolerance and prejudice with regard to sexual orientation. 'I am pleased that the campaign made it to the media and the large public', says Tatiana Olivieri, member of national Uisp executive committee, and promoter of 0.3 Tolerance campaign, picture campaign against homophobia in sports. 'There is still reticence, even if in the last year the attention about this topic increased because of the numerous cases of violence against homosexuals and transgenders'. Sport is extremely adverse to speak about these issues: "Not all bodies are considered as equal, and not all people are considered people with rights. Gender, sexual orientation and identity are removed in the great world of sport. Sport world is one of the most macho of all, there are many stereotypes".
