Season's Greetings
Watch the video address by ISCA President online

Dear members, friends and cooperation partners,

2009 has been an exceptionally vibrant year. In face of a global financial crisis, ISCA and its members have demonstrated that the world of Sport-for-All is intact and vigorously engaged in using the full potential of sport as a tool for social change.

More and more decision makers at local and national level have identified the Sport-for-All sector, as a partner that can release the Human Capital in societies – not by bringing medals, but creating healthier and more active citizens and societies.

ISCA conference 2011
Call for Expressions of interest

In preparation for the ISCA Executive Committee choice of host for the ISCA Sport for All Congress 2011, all interested organisations are invited to send a non-binding Expression of Interest to be hosting this event in the second half of 2011.

Expressions of Interest are kindly requested to be sent to the ISCA secretariat before 1. February 2010. The Executive Committee and ISCA secretariat will then enter into dialogue with all interested organisations about conference hosting possibilities before making the final decision, expected by June 2010.

The Congress may take a range of forms and topics. Interested orgainsations are welcome to find inspiration in earlier congresses (MOVE2009) (2nd European Sport for All Congress 2008) and put forward their own ideas for the development of the event.

ISCA's Executive Committe reserves the right not to chose a host among the organisations submitting an expression of interest by the deadline 1. February 2010.

There are no special format for Expressions of Interest, but interested organisations should address their capacity to host and coordinate a 3-4 day programme for 300 participants or more. Strategies to raise funding for the event should be addressed as well.

All inquiries regarding Expressions of Interest may be directed to ISCA Secretary General Jacob Schouenborg.

Lisbon Treaty gives EU a say on sports
By EurActive

With the Lisbon Treaty set to enter into force tomorrow (1 December), giving the EU a formal competence on sport, the European Commission is about to launch a wide stakeholder consultation to prepare for the first EU sports programme, expected to be launched in 2012.
Article 165 of the Lisbon Treaty provides the European Union with a soft competence on sport.

This means that the Commission will develop a specific EU sports programme, supported by a budget. The competence also allows for better promotion of sport in other EU policy areas and programmes, such as health and education.

According to Michal Krejza  , head of the Commission's sports unit, the new competence will help the EU add value by supporting platforms of exchange and debate, providing legal clarity and co-financing various initiatives.
