UFOLEP Hosts Sport and Environment Meeting
Sport and Environment Meeting Continues UFOLEP Tradition of Addressing Societal Issues Through Sport
Six organisations met at the UFOLEP national office in Paris on 8 January 2008 to discuss future initiatives within the context of the ISCA and United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) Memorandum of Understanding. The ISCA-UNEP agreement is being updated by the ISCA Secretariat and includes ISCA member environmental commitments.
The UFOLEP hosted meeting included presentations of national initiatives ranging from "eco-friendly sport event management" to "national policies on sustainable development of sport."
UFOLEP will propose a specific Sport and Environment working method to be adopted by the ISCA Executive Committee in March 2008. This proposal comes as UFOLEP celebrates 80 years of existence, making it one of the oldest sport structures in France. In addition, UFOLEP has become the first French "sustainable developing" sport organization.
Organizations from the following countries have shown interest in the initial outcomes of the Paris meeting:
· Italy
· Slovenia
· France
· Romania
· Germany
· Albania
· Iceland
· Lithuania
· Spain
· Portugal
· UK (Scotland)
