MOVE Week is growing – not just in Europe, but also in Latin America, where at least five countries will stage events between 20 and 27 September this year.

MOVE Agents, ranging from national government bodies to physical education faculties, in Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Peru and Uruguay will take part in “Semana Latinoamericana de Promoción de Deporte y Actividad Física - Semana MUÉVELA” (the Latin American Week of Sport and Physical Activity Promotion – MOVE Week).

A flagship event on the Semana MUÉVELA calendar is third edition of the Caminata 5km Por La Salud on 24 September in Colombia. One million participants are expected to join in simultaneously in over 115 cities. The event is being organised by governmental body Coldeportes.

The Uruguayan National Sports Secretary is taking a cross-sector approach by inviting its Health and Education sectors to join in. Already looking ahead, their goal for next year’s edition is for young people to organise and promote the Semana MUÉVELA.

This will be the third year in a row that MOVE Week has been held in Brazil, with the MOVE Brasil campaign launching the nation-wide event in 2013. MOVE Brasil is inspired by the NowWeMOVE campaign and has aimed to use Brazil’s “decade of sport” to draw attention to Brazilians’ increasingly sedentary lifestyles and encourage Brazilians to be more active in their daily lives. Last year 3,348 activities were organised by MOVE Agents (called Movedores in Brazil) in 152 cities.

Keep an eye on the Move Brasil and ISCA websites and the Facebook event page for more information about MOVE Week Latin America events.
